My Dearest,

Be careful, this is reckless.

Your heart is fragile, I am merciless.

Be careful, stay there, safe on the sand, don’t touch the water.

I’ve swallowed whole lambs, before, the slaughter.

Be careful of the sea, it’s deeper than you’d think.

One more step, and I fear that you surely will sink.

Be careful of the tide; it pulls without mercy.

You think you can hold me, but I’ll drown you perversely.

Be careful, I beg, you’re still learning to swim.

Patience is a virtue that is starting to dim.

Be careful. Go, quick! The sun’s started setting.

Darkness falls fast here; seals the fate you're forgetting,

Be careful now, please, you’re scaring me.

Steady hands reach forth, defying the sea.

Be careful, so far out, yet somehow still grinning.

The line between love and oblivion is thinning.

Be careful, you’re slipping beneath one final wave.

You mistake this for victory, but I know it’s your grave.

Be careful, you’re drowning, you know I want you.

But the ocean is vast and will always be blue.

Be careful, I asked, you said you would win, I knew you would drown, I begged you to swim.

You touch my hand, say you like when I’m grim,

I’m no longer sure where you end and I begin;

that’s when I realise we’re both falling in

Always Yours,

Dot
